Makin the most of Mil
Today we leave Cusco accompanied by our faithful guide Dennis. First stop is a weaving joint where we sit down and watch alpaca weaving techniques.
The folks in the store are delighted to just be with us and enjoy our company and don't want us to spend any money😒. Eventually we force them to take our money and end up with a table runner!
We then wander around some more Inca ruins which are actually pretty impressive.
Dennis tells us our next stop is a salt shop-I try to explain to Dennis that we now have salt in Australia, but to no avail.Dennis then regales us with an interminable story about making wine from potatoes.
We have booked lunch today at the highly regarded Mil restaurant which is described as an "experience", though I would have preferred lunch.(milcentro.pe).
But before this we visit the ajacent moray, a concentric farming system built by those wacky Incas-they certainly had a lot of time on their hands in between human sacrificing and mummification.
We then move on to Mil where we are firstly given a tour of the dive and because I am feeling somewhat under the weather I am offered oxygen therapy-a first for me in a culinary situation.
We notice a young lady sitting by herself so we told the waiter to ask her if she wished to join us; he came back and told us she preferred to sit alone and be bored than have to endure a minute of our conversation.
The meal was served in 8 separate courses and we basically had no idea what we were eating. As each course arrived we were given a card with a whole lot of crappy, hippy, new age shit which made us none the wiser about what was in front of us. We devised the game of "Is that edible?" and realised the consequeces of getting it wrong would mean a trip to the local ICU or dentist. Anyway just look at the pictures and decide for yourself. One "experience" one has eating here turns out to be penury!
