Frank and Robyn in the footsteps of Shackleton

 Today's activity is a tour of Cusco, which used be the headquarters of the Inca Condors. First stop is the training ground and fortress of the Condors. the Inca boys were pioneers of Leggo, with their knowledge of interlocking bricks-if only they could have done it on a smaller scale! Unfortunate;y they were taken off the top of the ladder by the Spanish club, the Pizzaro Pissheads, who enjoyed nothing more than knocking down Inca structures and building shoddy structures on top of the rubble and the Incas. We visited Cusco market with its weird and wonderful fruits and potatoes, This guy makes potions out of human ashes!     Dinner tonight consisted of alpaca steak and guacomole.

 Today's activity is a trip to Palomino Island just outside Lima. After a 2 hour, 5km car trip we arrive at the dock and sit around for an hour Tempting! and then it is on board to Palomino island.  We pass Peru's version of Devil's Island where members of the shining path benevolent society were imprisoned; when they rebelled against their harsh treatment the government shelled the island to smithereens thus solving the problem(cruel but fair). We arrive at Palomino Island where we are greeted by hordes of sea loins. They sound and smell like farts. We are offered the opportunity to plunge into the 14 degree water and interact with these charming creatures but decide to stay dry and happy. When we arrive back at the wharf there is no-one to pick us up but after a frustrating half lour we get a lift in a clapped out 1927 nissan. We then get driven to the airport( 3 hours and 2km away) through Limanese peak hour traffic.  There is some excitement when it is discovered I h...

 Today we do Lima. We are picked up Giancarlo the gaudy guide. We now realise that Lima has 4 cars for every head of population. We are also told that Peru has 3000 varieties of potato, but I suspect I misheard and in fact Peru has 3000 potatoes-I am starting counting now! The old part of town has a high degree of quainticality with a surfeit of balconies. Seniorita Policia 3 vultures We visit a monastery which is full of serenity. Local saint giving comfort??????? We visit the Larco museum which is SNS. Mr Larco was an archeologist who made the astounding discovery that the deeper you dig the older the stuff is, thus disproving once and for all the theory that the pyramids were not built starting at the top and working their way down. Dinner is at the Matria restaurant where most of the dishes were delicious.
