Last day on the Antarctic Penisula

Image
I may have transgressed???? We zodiac around the aptly named Spert Island finding the odd penguano and seal and collections of bizarre shaped icebergs. The weather is surprisingly sunny and we are now acclimated to the -40C temperatures. We are returned to the boat for the boufet lunch and now we must say a sad farewell ll to the antarctic penisula and head back to tropical Ushuia.

I'll have an iceburger with the lot

This morning we zap around Fournier bay and get intimate with many icebergs-they come in all shapes and sizes. Of course there is also the odd whale around waiting to destroy our boat. Lunch is ample. I sneak a look into the hold of the boat It is French after all In the arvo we are off to the aptly named Neko Harbour for a stroll among the penguanos

Attack of the killer penguins

Today we are dropped off somewhere unpronounceable and we hike up a steepish trail ever wary of killer penguins. We are told if they sense danger they will attack en masse and leave no survivors. I fully expect to become  part of the rich life cycle on the antarctic penisula. We are returned to the boat and indulge in the usual grande bouffe for lunch-I restrict myself to just 4 desserts. Beautifully prepared roast penguin I have noticed an intersting  in antarctica and that is that the cold icy air makes one's clothes shrink-even the belts; I've never heard of this being described before, maybe I should publish a paper! In the afternoon we visit the aptly named Base Brown and ascend a slippery slope We ascend a narrow slippery slope for a view. Tonight I have 3 bread rolls, an event which eclipses all today's experiences.
